One of the toughest things about living is the fact that none of us is perfect. It's a humbling experience to come face to face with your own shortcomings, and have to pick yourself up and go on.
But there's an amazing fact about this. Some of the greatest heroes of all time are people who were miserable failures. Abraham Lincoln lost election after election before he finally emerged to be a political leader.
If you are having serious problems in your life, know that you are not alone. And also know that there is nothing that cannot be overcome--and in fact, that can't be turned around into an instrument of tremendous growth and strength in your life. Whether the issue is a feeling of inadequacy, or something you've done involving another person, the first step is to realize that there is hope. The second is to realize that God hears your cry for help--and He will help you.
The nice thing about God is that He knows everything about us--and still will forgive and love us anyway. All that we have to do is turn to Him and ask.
If you have a friend or fellow student who has serious issues they are dealing with, remember to be compassionate. This could be you--and in fact, some day it probably will be.
Above all, don't insult, degrade or further hurt a person who is already struggling. It may be hard to recognize a person who needs extra understanding. Sometimes, the loneliness is masked behind big words, or an "I don't care" attitude. Try to look at people beyond what they want you to see.
Have a heart. Someday, you may need one.
"Love your neighbor as yourself."
(Luke 10:27)
"If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
(Matthew 6:14)
